Director Barros holds her Master's of Education degree in Mental Health Counseling and Forensic Services from the University of Massachusetts, Boston, and is a licensed Mental Health Clinician (LMHC). She has over 11 years of correctional experience, working at multiple state facilities and presently at the Norfolk Sheriff's Office.
She is the recipient of the National Health Service Corps award for work done serving underserved populations.
Ms. Barros is also an Adjunct Professor at Massachusetts Bay Community College and a Visiting Lecturer at Framingham State University. Through her correctional work, Joanne has facilitated numerous trainings on mental health issues and suicide prevention. In April of this year, Joanne was the guest speaker for the Norfolk County Prosecutors Association.
Director Barros is a Certified Correctional Healthcare Professional with the National Commission on Correctional Health Care and is also a member of the Norfolk Sheriff’s Employee Peer Support team (EAP).
