Assistant Deputy Superintendent O’Brien began his career with the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office as a Corrections Officer in 1997. In 2014, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.
During his years as a Corrections Officer he was actively involved in the Sheriff’s Response Team (SRT) serving as Command Leader.
Deputy O’Brien is part of the interview process for candidates for the Sheriff’s Response Team and has supervised the administration of the employee fitness testing process.
Deputy O’Brien was awarded the Medal of Valor in 2007 as the Massachusetts Correction Officer of the Year.
In 2015, John was appointed to the position of Assistant Deputy Superintendent II of Operations. In his role as an ADS II, he oversees the day to day security of the facility and resolves staffing issues as he supervises over 200 uniformed staff members. He also is active with Metrolec, a collaborative law enforcement team made up of numerous law enforcement agencies.
Deputy O’Brien holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology with a minor in Business from Framingham State University.
