Norfolk County Sheriff Michael G. Bellotti wants senior citizens throughout the county to take advantage of his File of Life program, which provides potentially life-saving information to medical personnel in the event of an emergency.
“If a person is ill or hurt and is unable to communicate with an ambulance crew, the File of Life folder can save his or her life by providing important information about medical conditions and which prescription medications a person takes,” Sheriff Bellotti said.
Sheriff Bellotti added that local emergency medical personnel have repeatedly said that the File
of Life folders are extremely helpful, allowing them to treat a patient more quickly and with more certainty.
“We have distributed more than 100,000 Files of Life to the public since I took office, and we want to make sure that anyone who wants one is able to obtain it.”
The free-of-charge kits consist of an information card listing all medications a person uses and all special health conditions he or she has. The card is kept inside a bright red vinyl sleeve marked “FILE OF LIFE,” which the users post on their refrigerator or some other highly visible place. In the event of a medical emergency, a File of Life allows paramedics and EMTs to administer the correct treatment quickly.
File of Life can be obtained by calling the Norfolk County Sheriff’s Office 781-751-3516
