The Norfolk Sheriff's Office Volunteer Services Program recruits individuals from the community who dedicate their personal time in such areas as: re-entry programming, education, substance and alcohol use treatment, religious services, and mentoring to name a few. This diverse and dedicated group of individuals works tirelessly to share their expertise, advice and guidance with offenders. Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older, security cleared and trained.
The law library is offered to offenders during regular library visits, giving them an opportunity to study, research, and otherwise help prepare a defense for their case. Additional library access is granted to those who wish to proceed with their case pro se (without a lawyer).
A weekly visit by an attorney, provided by the Norfolk County Bar Association free of charge, offers offenders access to qualified legal advice. The attorney’s function is to give direction in legal research and procedures and answer questions that offenders have regarding statute laws. The attorney is not provided for individual legal representation.
Notary services are provided free of charge by numerous and accessible Norfolk Sheriff’s Office staff members five days a week.
